The six practice areas in full
01Commercial agreements
What it covers
Supply and distribution contracts, agency agreements, service level agreements, joint ventures, shareholder and share purchase arrangements, loan and security documents, and the negotiation that sits around them.
We also review agreements already in force — for example a contract a client signed two years ago and now wants to exit — and set out the notice provisions and the exposure in writing.
What you receive
A draft with clause-by-clause commentary on the terms that carry risk, a written note of the positions we recommend you hold, and a final version for signature. Negotiation correspondence is copied to you as it happens; we do not negotiate silently.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] Fixed fee for defined drafting work quoted before we start; hourly for negotiation that runs beyond the quoted scope; disbursements — filing, stamping, courier — billed separately at cost.

02Property and land
What it covers
Title investigation and searches at the relevant land registry, deeds of assignment, governor's consent, leases and tenancies, mortgages and charges, and the property aspects of a business sale.
Where a title is defective or the search returns something unclear, we say so before money changes hands. That report is the most useful thing we produce on a purchase.
What you receive
A written title report naming what the search showed and what it did not show, the draft documents, and a completion checklist stating exactly which original documents you must keep.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] Usually a fixed fee per transaction, quoted once we have seen the title documents, because the work depends on how clean the title is. Search and registration fees are disbursements, separate.

03Employment
What it covers
Contracts of employment, staff handbooks and policies, restructuring and redundancy, disciplinary and grievance process, settlement agreements, and representation before the National Industrial Court.
Most of this work is preventative. A dismissal handled properly costs a fraction of one defended afterwards, and we will say that plainly even when the instruction is to defend.
What you receive
Draft contracts and policies, a written process note with the steps and the deadlines for a disciplinary or exit matter, and representation papers where a claim has been filed.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] Hourly for advisory and process work; fixed fee for a contract or handbook set; quoted per matter for court representation.

04Dispute resolution
What it covers
Commercial litigation in the state high courts, debt recovery, arbitration under the Arbitration and Mediation Act, and negotiated settlement before or during proceedings.
What you receive
At the start, a written assessment of the strengths and the weaknesses of the case, the likely timetable, and an estimate of the cost of running it to judgment. That assessment is given whether or not it supports the instruction.
After that, pleadings and processes, and a short update after each court date or material step.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] Hourly, with an estimate for each stage of the matter. Court and filing fees are disbursements. We do not offer contingency arrangements.

05Company secretarial
What it covers
Incorporation, statutory registers, board and general meeting minutes and resolutions, annual returns to the Corporate Affairs Commission, share transfers, and changes of directors or registered address.
What you receive
A statutory book kept current, filed returns with the acknowledgement, and a short annual note listing what was filed and when the next deadlines fall.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] A fixed annual retainer covering the recurring filings, agreed in writing at the start of each year. One-off transactions, such as a share transfer, are quoted separately.

06Notary and attestation
What it covers
Notarisation of documents intended for use outside Nigeria, certification of copies, attestation of powers of attorney and statutory declarations.
What you receive
The notarised document, sealed and signed, with the record kept at the office. Bring the original document and valid identification; some documents must be signed in our presence, so check before travelling.
How it is priced
[Client to supply: the firm's actual approach.] A fixed fee per document, payable at the appointment. Notarial fees are set by the Notaries Public Act and are stated before the appointment is booked.
